Registration and opening

The registration desk opens at 8.30 on Tuesday morning and is located close to the entrance 2T (which is the one next to the large OULU letters on a green background). There are some posters pointing the way to the registration desk. Please head to the registration desk when you arrive at the university to collect your badge and let us know you have arrived. The opening of the conference will be at 9.15 sharp and it contains some important practical information so please try to get to the venue by then.

Excursion and conference dinner:

There will be an excursion on Wednesday starting at 15:00 after the last talk of the day has finished. We have organised bus transport to Nallikari beach where you may join us for a couple of hours of sunshine before the conference dinner. The conference dinner starts at 18:30 on Wednesday at restaurant Seelari (address: Puomitie 12, 90500 Oulu). The restaurant is located within a 25 minute walking distance from Nallikari beach, so there will be a group of people walking from the beach to the restaurant after the excursion. If you have not registered for the conference dinner but are still joining us for the excursion, you can get back to the centre from Nallikari beach via bus number 15.

Traveling to Oulu

The most common way to travel to Oulu from abroad is by flight with a transfer in Helsinki. The city of Oulu can be reached from the Oulu airport by bus lanes 8 or 9, see the OSL website for a timetable, or by a taxi in which case we recommend booking the taxi in advance. The cost for the bus ticket from the airport to the city centre is currently 4.05€ (Zone AB). A taxi ride from the airport to the city varies around 40–60€.

Another (potentially less expensive) option is flying to Helsinki and taking a train to Oulu. The train ride takes about 6 hours and the prices vary between 20€ and 60€. There is also a night train which takes approximately 9 hours. Costs vary between 120€ and 210€. The train tickets must be booked in advance.

Venue

All talks will take place at the lecture hall L2 on the University of Oulu Linnanmaa campus. There is no catered lunch at the event, but the Linnanmaa campus has multiple restaurants serving buffet style lunch.

Reaching the campus

There are frequent bus connections between the city centre and the Linnanamaa campus, which are about 6km apart. You can reach the campus via bus lanes 1, 2, 3, 5, 8, 48, 52 or 52K. More information and a detailed timetable can be found from the OSL website. The cost of a single bus ticket (Zone A) is currently 2.05€ and the easiest way to purchase them is by the contactless payment option of your debit card or mobile device when entering the bus. You can also buy the ticket from the bus driver with cash but note that then the price is 3.30€. A third option is to buy the tickets via the OSL app.

If you wish, you can use the Oulu Campus Navigator -app, which you can install via the Android Play Store or iOS AppStore, to find your way around the campus. If you are arriving to the university by a bus from the center of Oulu, simply enter the university from door 2T (next to the large OULU letters on a green background) and follow the corridor until you reach the central hub area, where the lecture hall L2 is located. Accommodation

Most of the hotels in Oulu are located in the city centre. If you are an invited speaker or an early career mathematician and the organisers have agreed to take care of your accommodation, the accommodation will be booked for you, and details will be sent closer to the conference. Other participants are asked to make their own arrangements. Some options for hotels can be found below, the invited speakers will be accommodated in Lapland Hotel Oulu, whereas Early Career Mathematicians that are supported by us will be housed in Scandic Oulu City. Note that we are not employing any booking agent, so treat solicitations like that as spam (see also below).

Scam Warning

As you are probably aware, there are many companies preying on conference attendees, offering to book accommodation for them. If we have offered accommodation to you as an invited speaker or early career mathematician, the organisers will be in touch with you directly. At no point are we engaging an external company to deal with bookings, nor will you be asked to arrange for payment in advance.

If you are not offered accommodation by us, we recommend that you book directly with one of the hotels mentioned above.
